Even Start Family Literacy

The Menasha Even Start Family Literacy Program is a comprehensive, integrated literacy program addressing the educational needs of Menasha Joint School District parents and young children. 

Menasha Even Start Family Literacy educates the parent AND child.

Parents:

  • Learn to read, write and speak English
  • Earn a high school diploma
  • Gain skills needed for a job
  • Learn how to best support their child's learning

Children:

  • Participate in a quality early learning environment 
  • Learn to play and get along with other children
  • Increase the words they know and understand
  • Gain the skills and concepts necessary for success in kindergarten

The four main goals of Even Start:

  • Prepare children ages birth to six for school with the prerequisite education and literacy instruction needed for kindergarten
  • Improve adult literacy
  • Enhance parenting skills
  • Foster quality interaction between adults and their children.

Location and Class Schedules

Classes run Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday mornings

Classes are offered at Gegan Elementary School, 675 Airport Road, Menasha, WI 54952


Collaborating Partners

Menasha's Even Start Family Literacy program primarily collaborates with Fox Valley Technical College, the Menasha Joint School District, and the United Way- Fox Cities. United Way funding is through an innovative grant made possible through the generous support of community donors.

Other partnerships include Head Start, the Menasha Public Library, the Boys and Girls Club of Menasha, Financial Information and Services Center, Winnebago Birth to 3 Program, the Appleton Area School District, Hispanic Interagency, Mosaic Family Health Center, FVTC Early Childhood Education Program.
