| In order to maintain safe and orderly schools and classrooms, the Menasha Public School system has embarked on a program to train district personnel in Nonviolent Crisis Intervention. NVCI is a program which helps staff learn to recognize warning signs that allow for early intervention in a crisis, as well as how to use both verbal and non-verbal techniques to avoid a violent confrontation. The use of Nonviolent Crisis Intervention allows for recognizing students in distress early on and using appropriate techniques to address the situation before it becomes a crisis.
Certified NVCI Instructors Chip Kintopf, Maria Halbach and Ann Sonkowsky have a combined total of over 20 years of teaching experience with students in crisis. |

Chip Kintopf “….when people hear nonviolent crisis intervention they think of physical confrontation. This program offers much more. The verbal part of this will be a tremendous asset to any individual working with students of all ages. |

I have been using NVCI since the ‘80’s – it has helped me reach children in a way that would not have happened if I didn’t understand the continuum of behavior escalation and appropriate responses to kids behaviors. It has kept me refreshed and upbeat in working with some of our most troubled children.
This is what your colleagues have to say:
Peter Pfundtner – Director of Staff Development and Human Relations "every educator could benefit from it, …not about crisis but about how we work with people under stress and strain and not letting it get to a crisis.

- Great program, wish I had it years ago -
I feel ready to alleviate problems with students.
- I feel more comfortable in addressing students who are acting out and know that I can be safe as well as my students.
- The instructors were great. Very energetic, knowledgeable and related the steps with actual situations.”
