Banta Construction of Banta Elementary began on October 30, 1959, which was celebrated by the mayor at the time, R. G. Ducharme, breaking the first ground. He was accompanied by members of the board of education and various members of the local government. It was lamented, however, that the man after which the school was to be named, George Banta Jr., was absent from the ceremony. The construction of the building cost $450,000, which equates to around $4,848,680 in modern currency. The school had fourteen classrooms and a large library.
