Welcome to the Facilities Cleaning Service Information Page
Our mission is to provide operational and administrative support to all District educational administrators and support departments so that they may, in collaboration with all stakeholders, continuously strive to meet every child’s educational needs by providing a safe, clean, effective and efficient learning and working environment.
Why is cleaning so important?
Children spend a large portion of their lives preparing for their futures through schooling. Because they spend so much of their time in a school building, the space should be an environment in which each student feels safe, healthy, and comfortable in order to maximize their learning potential and focus on what matters most while they are there. A clean, neat school is, at the end of the day, a crucial part of a good education. Keeping a clean and sanitary environment is one of the most important defenses against the spread of illness or infection among children.
To better understand the relationship between cleanliness and academic success, below are five notable benefits of a clean learning environment.
1. Students Stay Focused
In school, every child should have the same opportunities to learn and grow. A child's attention span varies from age to age, and even from child to child, and the adults responsible should work to eliminate unnecessary distractions and give everyone the same chance at success. Anything from visual clutter to foul odors can divert even a laser-focused child's attention away from important schoolwork.
Classroom cleanliness is crucial to support students in staying on task, and a study revealed that even moderate uncleanliness has been shown to be significantly distracting. A clean, organized, and germ-free school allows children to learn and grow in an environment that best supports their individual development, no matter their attention capacity.
2. Teachers Can Teach
At the end of each school day, teachers should be sorting, grading, and preparing for the next time their students enter the classroom. Too often, however, teachers are found cleaning their own classrooms at the beginning or end of each day, which takes both time and mental energy away from the most important parts of their job descriptions. A clean school space not only boosts the morale of its students but its teachers as well.
A great majority of teachers are willing to put in extra energy and time in order to help their students succeed. A clean school space allows them to focus those efforts where it matters most — and not on cleaning the building.
3. Students and Teachers Are More Comfortable
According to researchers at Princeton University, an excess of environmental diversions can have a significant detrimental effect on your mood and ability to process information. Students may struggle to feel comfortable when among dusty surfaces, hallway spills, and other messes, let alone to learn or work.
Clean schools convey a sense of pride and care for the space and for those who visit. When students and staff can count on a reliably clean school, they're more likely to feel at ease and ready to take on each assignment.
4. Everyone Stays Healthier
Schools are populated each day with hundreds of students, teachers, staff, and visitors. With that amount of traffic, there are numerous high-touch, high-contact areas that demand frequent cleaning and sanitization. During cold and flu season, a lack of adequate cleanliness can cause students and teachers to miss school due to sick days.
A clean school can also reduce the number of allergens and pathogens present in the environment, even when students and teachers are not sick. Dust, bacteria, and even mold can linger in the air, which can trigger allergic reactions or asthma symptoms in anyone who spends time within the building.
5. Cleanliness Is Economical
Equipment that is regularly cared for lasts longer than equipment and supplies that are rarely cleaned or attended to. Cleaning not only has short-term, environmental benefits, but it also could save the school money long-term, too. From bathroom fixtures to auditorium chairs, each of the school's assets can avoid premature replacement with a little TLC along the way.
Cleaning and Disinfecting
Cleaning and disinfecting are part of a broad approach to preventing infectious diseases in Menasha Joint School District. To help slow the spread of influenza (flu) or COVID-19, the first line of defense are vaccinations. Other measures include covering coughs and sneezes, washing hands properly, if sick stay home and detailed cleaning for the environment at the time.
